I am a big fan of PC based computer games. I have no
love for consoles in any way, shape or form. In terms
of the type of games I like well that varies. Below
you will find some of the games that I amd looking forward
to, currently like as well as some that I used to play.
Eagerly Awaiting
Currently Like
Battlezone 1
Fantastic game, a real new type of game when it
came out that instantly caught my attention. Even
though the game is nearly three years old, I still
love playing it. I also very much enjoy playing '
The Red Odyssey '. This was an authorized mission
pack that was created by Team Evolve that was designed
to run under the BZ engine. You will find out why
I have a love for it later on in my BIO.
Project
IGI
Well as far as I am concerned this is one of the
best first person shooters that I have played in a
long while. Created by a company called Innerloop
and published by Eidos, it is their first effort at
an FPS. Granted there are some annoying little features
that the game has, but in saying that, I still find
the game to be tactically challenging, and very well
thought out.
Rogue Spear
Formally my favorite FPS, this game still holds an
interest with me. A great game to play with your buddies
in Co-op mode as well as good old DM. Albeit the engine
is a little dated now and the AI is incredible predictable,
it is still fun to play with others on a LAN or the
Net. I very much look forward to the day when Redstorm
release its sequel.
Porsche Unleashed
By far the best title that EA have released under
their ' Need for Speed ' banner. I play this game
mainly on a LAN with four other drivers and there
is not yet a game to match this for driving fun. You
can't beat taking out a £200,000 Porsche that
is in mint condition and racing it along various courses
around the world against your buddies. Well worth
the investment if you are looking for a good MP driving
game as well as a good quality SP game.
Janes USAF
One of my favorite Flight Simms. Also one of the
hardest I have played. The graphics are very good
and the enemy AI is even better. I have yet to complete
a campaign successfully as this game continues to
throw me a curve ball just as I think I am about to
get home safely. Normally this is because I have cruised
home, full tilt with my afterburners on, only to realize
that the engines have stopped cause there 'Ain't no
Fuel'.
Earth
2150
This is the last of my current favorites. I find
this game to be a smart version of Red Alert and everything
that RA should have been. The attention to detail
is very good, the control interface is reasonably
simple. I like the fact that the game can be played
above and below ground. Little details such as all
the vehicles have headlights, enemies generally wait
until dusk or nightfall before launching their attacks,
and so on make this game a real winner as far as I
am concerned.
Old Favorites.
Unreal
Tournament
Well this is by far the best of the quick paced
FPS that I have ever played. IMHO it smashes Q3 into
the floor. Playing online is a real buzz for me and
I love the CTF and Domination game types. The network
code is slick and even though I am on a 56K link,
it does not seem to matter how many people are in
the game, there appears to be minimal lag. I also
very much enjoyed the single player side of this game.
Half
Life
At the time of its launch this game was unbeatable
in my book. The first time I came up against the Marines
and they were talking to each other on the radios
and driving me into a position that suited them for
an ambush, I virtually wet myself. I could not believe
that the AI was that good. Just as a test I went back
and tried it another way and low and behold the AI
adapted and still nailed me. A fantastic game and
a real benchmark for AI designers
Battlezone II
One the of games I most eagerly awaited, only to
find it was not as I expected. Still a very good game
that was crucified by Activision before it had ever
left Pandemic Studios. Had a few months more being
given to its development, I have no doubt that Battlezone
1 would be in this section and that BZII would still
be well up on my current play list. I am always willing
to play the game, I don't hate it, I just wish that
Pandy had been given more time to make it what it
should have been.
Mech
Warrior(s)
Always has been one of my favs since Mech 1. I love
this type of game. I played MW3 until I was bored
silly with it and loved the single player campaigns.
One of the major turning points for me was the purchase
of my Sidewinder FF joystick which allowed me to turn
the turret independently of the way I was walking.
The MP side of the game was sadly lacking and I found
that after 10 minutes of DM I was bored stupid. I
eagerly await the arrival of MW4 in the UK.
Privateer II
Still one of my favorite concepts of games. The
buying and selling of products across the universe.
The graphics were Pre-Hardware acceleration days,
but the overall game play and options were fantastic.
As yet there has not been a successor to this game,
if anyone knows of a game that will satisfy my requirements
in this area, speak up, I am listening
So that is a list of some of the games I enjoy(ed)
playing. You might of noticed that there is a lack of
RPG type games. Good reason for that, I hate them!!!!!!
To me I find nothing more boring than running around
casting spells and drinking potions.

Theories
Well as you will notice from my system details above,
I am a true believer in buying main stream product.
Although I might not get the best performance in all
arenas, I do manage to get all games working. It might
be that there are better graphics cards on the market
that would give me another 30 fps, but I hear so many
horror stories about people that buy all of these different
3rd party add-ons and them not working properly together,
that it makes me shudder. I, to date, can confidently
say that for me, my theory about buying main stream
product has allowed me to play a good range of games,
trouble free with reasonable performance from all at
a resolution that suits me. Normally at 1280 or 1024.
Best Gaming Achievement
To be the lead level designer on Odyssey. I was responsible
for the creation of 21 of 23 missions for this pack.
There are still people now that enjoy playing the addon
for BZ and every time I get an email from a fan, it
makes me proud. I know that I put 100's of hours into
the creation of those levels and to me, they are by
far better than the levels that were released with the
original game.
