Fireball at work

Fireball at play
Current Duties
FireBall is Team Battle Zone's humble janitor. I specialize
in doing all of the dirty, mundane jobs that no one else wants to do. In Tribes,
I excel in defense setups. The nickname of "Turrets 'R Us" seems appropriate
when you think of me. Most of the time all I would hear would be, "FireBall,
get the turrets!" Once the intricate set-ups were finished, I repair and maintain
the equipment and my teammates. Medium D is my usual setup in Tribes. I use
Writer's "Fast favorites" keys to load out 9 specific duties. I have everything
from "sneaky sniper" to "big pockets". In my more insane moments, I have been
known to do things like OOB snipe, pilot ships, base wreck, and go 1v1 on a
enemy heavy using a light with a chain gun.
Real Life Duties
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1960. Moved to the New
Berlin in 1970. Graduated in 1978. Joined USAF in '78-'82
- Hated high voltage and heights so they made me a Power Lineman, working
on pole with 75,000 volts.
- Scored 110+ out of 100 on my basic training marksmanship. Got a few extra
bullets holes from the people around me
- Survived "Terrible Tuesday's" big tornado in Wichita Falls, Texas while
training at Sheppard AFB. (you see this on the Weather Channel all the time)
- Spent 18 months stationed in Duluth AFB, MN. A wonderful place. Who would
have thought I would move back there!!
- Then spent 2 years on temporary duty all over Alaska. Anchorage to Shemya,
King Salmon to Barrow.
- Odd jobs: Radio Shack salesman, video arcade attendant, vending / amusement
machine repair. Started to work for Paragon cable TV in 1987. It was RVS,
then became Century, and it is now part of Time Warner.
Moved to Duluth, MN. Tried to find some worthwhile job
up here but nothing but flipping burgers was available. One day my old sub-contractor
called and offered to hire me. Two days later I had his $30,000 computer system
set up in my back room. I currently do mapping and design for cable companies.
I print out basic street maps on my 24" wide HP printer. People then walk out
the entire city. I take that information and place things like lot lines, addresses,
poles and ped numbers, existing cable equipment onto the map. This is the "existing
walkout" maps. We can then do a full redesign of the cable system. My design
brings the system up to full 100 channel capability, with fiber optic nodes
having the capability of providing things like pay-per-view and cable modems.
It is a real fun job. I work my own hours, get good pay, and work at home. Plus
I get to use a nice dual 19" monitor system with a full sizes 24"x36" digitizing
board and a 24" wide HP ink jet printer. Real nice !
Special events and other interesting things
- Got to watch F4 fighter jets take off, passing 100' from me with full afterburners
rolling. I had fun working on runway lights.
- Got to do some great hunting and fishing. USAF recreation center rented
snowmobiles for $14 a day!
- Worked on my pilots license. Had 62 hours of flying time in before I had
to quit due to the bills piling up. Favorite airplane Cessna 152
- Worked on USAF sites so remote and closed down that we had to carry weapons
for protection from the bears.
- Shemya Island, Alaska. 2 mile by 4 mile island. The 200' cliffs were great
for flying my remote control glider.
- Shemya also had bi-weekly rocket launches of a weather probe. they went
up 60 miles and parachuted down transmitting data.
- Got to "play" with some nice defense radar systems. Had fun identing aircraft.
Got to watch actual scrambles and intercepts.
- BattleTech (on GEnie at $6 an hour)
- BRU/ACID (Air Warrior) AlphaWorld (2 sites under construction, 603N 601W,
and 352N 610W)
Hobbies
- Scuba dive. PADI certified open water diver.
- Paintball. Got a nice pump action sniper rifle with a scope and a silencer.
Even have a field up here in Duluth.
- Astronomy: Past member of Milwaukee area observatory. Interested in Iridium
flares and project StarShine.
- Private pilot. Still got my learners permit.
- CB, Ham radio, Weather Spotter.
Computer System
- MicroPro (mpipc.com) computer special (I would recommend this company to
everyone)
- Pentium 2 - 450
- 128 Meg memory
- STB V3-3000 video card
- Sound Blaster Live Value
- Cable modem (aprox 60 kps DL speed, NICE!!!)
