Team BattleZone (beyond its founding members) is an "invite
only" team. This really only means one thing. A player that
wants to join our ranks does not go through an "application
process" as much as a "recruiting process." Team BattleZone's
own members are the ones that select the candidates for the
Team. Here is the way recruiting usually works.
When you see a bunch of {BZ}on a server without a password,
it is safe for you to enter and join the game. Play with us.
Play against us. Show us that you can blend into our team.
Or show us that you can stop our attacks or thwart us when
playing against us. Don't just stand there and wave "Hi" over
and over, and ask "How do I get into BZ?". Get to work. Play
hard but play fair. Find our weak spots and fortify them.
Find the enemies faults and exploit them. And don't stop until
the clock runs out. Team BattleZone is a "smart team" not
a "tough team". We rely on our brains more than our brawn.
We have some very talented players, however they were selected/invited
for their attitude before their skills. In other words, get
yourself noticed by our players, so that we remember you.
The reason for being so selective is that we are MORE than
just another "clan", we are friends. Friends with similar
interests and attitudes, both inside and outside the game.
THAT is the important part. When I see "my friend" needing
help I am going to respond more quickly and thoughtfully than
when it is just another person in the same situation. If at
some point if you decide to make it a personal point to come
into games with BZ playing in them, and you play well (with
us, or against us, is irrelevant) you WILL be noticed.
If we like what we see then you may be approached to be a
"pledge" or a "recruit" (same thing just different terms).
Your "sponsor" (the one that asked you to be a pledge) will
then make a mailing to the team and ask if anyone has any
objections or support of your being given the "Tiny Tin Foil
Hat" or a {bz} badge to wear. Once issued the {bz} badge you
will be given an e-mail address to write the team, access
to our "Watering Hole" chitchat board, and the OGL games and
practices sign-up calendar. Once you are "issued" your small
{bz} badge, you must then make it a point to play with {bz}
and {BZ} as much as possible for the next two weeks. After
the end of your two week trial period, another mailing goes
out to the team and asked if there are any objections to you
being issued your "Tin Foil Hat" or "Big" {BZ} badge. With
the issuance of your full membership, you will then be given
access to the password protected areas of our web page, and
our "Forum" which is where most of our tactical discussions
occur.
So, don't think of it as a "I've got one chance to impress
them" situation. Just hangout with us in games. Pick a role
and show your value at doing that role. When we see your name
again and again, you will possibly then be issued in-game
orders from time to time when BZ are scarce. Just kind of
think of it more like being a"tagalong" than an "audition."
Get to know a few of the guys. Tell the guy that mortared
you from 250 yards out, "Dangit, I "tried" to catch that one...",or
when you snag a flag from us, be funny and say "I'll return
it when I'm done with it!" In Team BattleZone we care more
about someone that is fun to play with, than a "One Man Army."
Of course skills are nice to have, but we already have some
of the best people currently playing.
Please don't find ONE {BZ} and spend the whole game just
targeting him to get him or her to notice you. That is not
cool. Don't make it a point to be noticed by disturbing someone's
game, but rather by making yourself a VALUABLE part of the
game. Believe it or not, I'm more apt to notice someone that
RESPONDS when I say, "Can anyone bring me some ammo?" while
I am sitting on the flag, and actually brings me some ammo,
(or better yet an ammo station!) than someone that is always
in my face, and not playing the game, but is just trying to
kill me... at least I will remember them in a good way. The
point is, do what you do best. If you are a great flag runner,
then join us and grab away, or try to steal the heck out of
ours. If you are best at fixing bases, then keep the base
fixed. Don't make it your GOAL to be noticed by getting in
the face of every BZ that you see, make yourself noticed by
blending into the team and filling in where needed, or showing
your value while on the other team. Does it seem like we are
short on defense? Come stand next to me and protect the flag
or the objective. Does it seem like no one is flag capping
or hitting the objectives? Then get your booty out there and
cap something! This is what I mean by "being noticed".
Does this make sense? I guess it is hard to convey since
WE typically choose our recruits after many games of playing
with them. I'm just trying to tell you WHY we chose them,
so that you can try to follow in their footsteps if you desire.
However it is typically not just one reason that we might
ask someone to join Team BattleZone. Being a part of Team
BattleZone is NOT about your score in games, or the amount
of kills that you have. It is about putting the team goals
before your own. "Thrill Seekers" need not bother us. We are
a group of players with well defined roles. We are about discipline,
not kill scores. If you want to know what discipline is, play
the role of defense on Tribes CTF Desert of Death, and be
the one that sits in the "flag hole" for 25 minutes, watching
the command screen for incoming enemies. Boring? Yes. Necessary?
You bet. So that is our process. Not too difficult if being
a part of Team BattleZone is what you want. We are very selective
about our teammates, as we need to be able to rely on them
both in and out of games. Team BattleZone is not a bunch of
"kill em all" game players. We regularly practice and strategize
maps to ensure the team works as much like a machine when
it comes to roles, positions and tactics.
